Yes! Yes! Yes! Natasha Preston is amazing- I wish I could meet her in person! This is the second book I have read and they are absolutely breathtaking!Keep up the good work and looking forward to reading other novels by her!P.s. Not just about the author, but this book is stunning, thrilling, and descriptive! I LOVE IT!Loved the book, love this author more! I'm not sure why this book has received so many negative reviews, I loved it! I only read thrillers, murder mysteries, "who dun it", etc type of books and this book fit the bill so well. I got the book and was finished within 2 days, always makes me sad when I get so invested in a good book and then finish it. It was interesting from the get go, but I'm not surprised because I love this author. I understand some users were upset with the ending, but that's how move endings end too.. makes you want more and that's the whole point. I'm 24 and loved it, so I recommend it for anyone!Slow book- poor character development and plot and worst of all TERRIBLE ending! Okay, so I’ve read awake and the cellar by this author and both were fantastic! So when I saw this book I had to get it ASAP. However I didn’t read reviews before buying. Big mistake.First off, I was about 12-14% through the book and NOTHING had happened! The rest of the book was a whine fest by the main character with no clues given as to who did it. There was absolutely no plot at all. By the way, the detective in this book was portrayed horribly and I wish he wasn’t portrayed as an ass. He could have been a great character addition to this book.Anyways, fast forward to 4 hours of my life gone by choosing to read this book just to have a TERRIBLE ending!! She started to leave it off on a good note (the ending still wasn’t logical or believable but whatever) and BOOM! Ruining it and left it on a cliff hanger type moment. SO dumb. I don’t think I’ve been this dissapointed in a book for a LONG time. I would have given it zero stars if I could. If you want a great thriller/suspense/horror book to read, check out- A sound in the dark by Kyle Romines.

Winston Graham's son read from his father's book and it was so magical and wonderfully written, so I know my husband will really enjoy these books. A great gift to fill winter days. My father thought that the writing was excellent, but disliked "unrealistic" relationship between Ross and Demelza- true realists may have trouble with this. However, I feel that unconventional people have always existed..... These are beautifully written, suspense filled historical fiction novels, that would even be appropriate for teenagers (I wish I have been given these as a teenager in lieu of some of the slow moving Victorian novels!) Title: Dottir Pdf My Journey to Becoming a Two-Time CrossFit Games Champion

This is a memoir written and read by two-time CrossFit Games champion, Katrin Davidsdottir.

Dottir is two-time consecutive CrossFit Games Champion Katrin Davidsdottir's inspiring and poignant memoir. As one of only two women in history to have won the title of "Fittest Woman on Earth" twice, Davidsdottir knows all about the importance of mental and physical strength. She won the title in 2015, backing it up with a second win in 2016, after starting CrossFit in just 2011.

A gymnast as a youth, Davidsdottir wanted to try new challenges and found a love of CrossFit. But it hasn't been a smooth rise to the top. In 2014, just one year before taking home the gold, she didn't qualify for the Games. She used that loss as motivation and fuel for training harder and smarter for the 2015 Games. She pushed herself and refocused her mental game. Her hard work and perseverance paid off with her return to the Games and subsequent victories in 2015 and 2016.

In Dottir, Davidsdottir shares her journey with listeners. She details her focus on training, goal setting, nutrition, and mental toughness.

Burn the boats. Read this in under 24 hours. Picked it up every chance I got. Inspirational, motivating. Katrin’s story goes to show that at the end of the day what matters most is your attitude and mental game. And her honesty about where she was before she worked on that side of the sport is exactly what every person needs to learn and understand about life regardless of their athletic pursuit (or lack thereof). I am appreciative of her putting it all out there and not just relishing in the glamour of being a champion. By sharing her up down up journey with us she is giving and teaching and BEING a champion. This book is also full of “starting points” for improving yourself as a person - books she’s read, resources she’s incorporated, and the revelation of how much effort and focus and time day in and day out it really takes to do what she does. This book has a place of visibility on my shelf so I don’t forget what I took away from it. At times she does show her young age, and being ten years older I imagine myself saying something similar then. Then I think - at her age look at what she has accomplished and the lessons she has internalized and then I imagine where she will be in ten years given her drive and determination to constantly improve. I am very much looking forward to more of her insights, wisdom, lessons and growth story in the future.Part biography part coaching inspiration My husband and I read a number of sports psychology books, and as an avid crossfit fan I love Katrin. I truly loved reading about Katrins journey and even better, found what she shared about growth and mindset to be so valuable for anyone who wants to become a better version of themselves. Great read!Sled Dog Work Ethic + Near Reckless Risk Taking = 2X Winner Sports memoirs are not for everyone. I found this one appealing for several reasons: 1. the insight into Icelandic culture, especially with respect to athletic women; 2. the culture and community of CrossFit; and 3. the minutiae of the athlete’s mind, and how minute by minute one must think to become a champion. Katrin is very candid about her mental and emotional struggles, and the reader benefits from the deeply honest examination of unproductive thought patterns during training and competition. It gave me much to think about with respect to staying motivated during the daily grind, and ways to think about setting and achieving goals in any endeavor, whether it be work, personal projects, diet, or fitness.Impressive indeed that a small island nation can produce a relatively high percentage of notable CrossFit Games competitors. Katrin describes the Viking background of Icelanders, and how dogged determination was required to settle and prosper in such a barren land. The “sled dog” mentality of digging into hard work is a perfect match for CrossFit training and competition. The friendly competition and supportiveness of the CrossFit community is highly beneficial in the grind of training. In a sport where one may be tempted to train in isolation, the community atmosphere, that doesn’t exist at many gyms, is emblematic in CrossFit gyms (at least in Katrin’s view.) My experience in my local gym is more of an individual endeavor, with little to no interaction or even eye contact with others. Talking to others would feel like a strange and unwelcome imposition. Katrin describes a real fitness community of support.I highly recommend this memoir, which sets the bar higher, meets and exceeds your expectations. Having watched several CrossFit Games documentaries, it is helpful to have an insider’s understanding on the nature of the challenges athletes endure.

She Said Pdf

Title: She Said Pdf Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement
Author: Jodi Kantor
Published Date: 2019-10
Page: 320

An Amazon Best Book of September 2019: Rumors had swirled around Harvey Weinstein for decades, and the New York Times’s Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey were not the only reporters to put their noses to this ugly trail. But as they spoke to actresses and, in a surprising turn, more and more female former employees of the Weinstein Company, they discovered that settlements and nondisclosure agreements had smothered the truth. The steps taken by others to conceal Weinstein’s actions and give them legal cover are almost as chilling as Weinstein’s abuse, and Kantor and Twohey’s unwinding of this camouflage is a delicate maneuver made possible only by women willing to break their silence. The reporters’ urging of an actress to go on the record about Weinstein’s abuse and a last-minute face off with Weinstein and his lawyers in the Times’s offices brings the investigation to its pinnacle of tension. As the book switches to another high-profile accusation, the pacing grows clunky, likely because the authors were not embedded in that investigation, but then rises again, buoyed by a small gathering of very different women at Gwyneth Paltrow’s house. Their candid talk on the lingering toxicity of abuse, social media backlash, and the damage to these women’s careers caused by both silence and speaking out will bring home to readers how one abusive moment can ruin lives, and how listening to what “she said” is the first and important step to stopping someone from perpetrating crime after crime. —Adrian Liang Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey are investigative reporters at the New York Times. Kantor has focused on the workplace in her reporting, and particularly the treatment of women, covered two presidential campaigns, and is the author of The Obamas. Twohey has focused much of her attention on the treatment of women and children, and, in 2014, as a reporter with Reuters News, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting. Kantor and Twohey shared numerous honors for breaking the Harvey Weinstein story, including a George Polk Award, and, along with colleagues, the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

From the Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters who broke the news of Harvey Weinstein's sexual harassment and abuse for the New York Times, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, the thrilling untold story of their investigation and its consequences for the #MeToo movement

For many years, reporters had tried to get to the truth about Harvey Weinstein’s treatment of women. Rumors of wrongdoing had long circulated. But in 2017, when Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey began their investigation into the prominent Hollywood producer for the New York Times, his name was still synonymous with power. During months of confidential interviews with top actresses, former Weinstein employees, and other sources, many disturbing and long-buried allegations were unearthed, and a web of onerous secret payouts and nondisclosure agreements was revealed. These shadowy settlements had long been used to hide sexual harassment and abuse, but with a breakthrough reporting technique Kantor and Twohey helped to expose it. But Weinstein had evaded scrutiny in the past, and he was not going down without a fight; he employed a team of high-profile lawyers, private investigators, and other allies to thwart the investigation. When Kantor and Twohey were finally able to convince some sources to go on the record, a dramatic final showdown between Weinstein and the New York Times was set in motion.

Nothing could have prepared Kantor and Twohey for what followed the publication of their initial Weinstein story on October 5, 2017. Within days, a veritable Pandora’s box of sexual harassment and abuse was opened. Women all over the world came forward with their own traumatic stories. Over the next twelve months, hundreds of men from every walk of life and industry were outed following allegations of wrongdoing. But did too much change—or not enough? Those questions hung in the air months later as Brett Kavanaugh was nominated to the Supreme Court, and Christine Blasey Ford came forward to testify that he had assaulted her decades earlier. Kantor and Twohey, who had unique access to Ford and her team, bring to light the odyssey that led her to come forward, the overwhelming forces that came to bear on her, and what happened after she shared her allegation with the world.

In the tradition of great investigative journalism, She Said tells a thrilling story about the power of truth, with shocking new information from hidden sources. Kantor and Twohey describe not only the consequences of their reporting for the #MeToo movement, but the inspiring and affecting journeys of the women who spoke up—for the sake of other women, for future generations, and for themselves.

BRAVO! 5-Plus Stars! I have the great honor to leave the first review for this amazing book. Ms. Kantor and Ms Twohey, two brave Pulitizer Prize winning investigative journalists, have given us their in-depth account of unraveling the alleged sex scandal that rocked not only Hollywood, but the world. And the complicity behind one abusive Hollywood mogul's—or should I say monster's—sense of laissez faire and entitlement. A gripping page-turner that reads like a great detective story, it should be read by everyone—men and women alike. And by your sons and daughters once they are of age. The truth is the most powerful tool we have. Ms. Kaplan and Ms. Twohey are both inspirations, in more ways they know, as are all the "she-said" victims who have spoken out. I can't wait to meet them at their book signing later this year in Los Angeles! BRAVO!

The New York Times and Washington Post bestseller that changed the way millions communicate

“[Crucial Conversations] draws our attention to those defining moments that literally shape our lives, our relationships, and our world. . . . This book deserves to take its place as one of the key thought leadership contributions of our time.”
―from the Foreword by Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

“The quality of your life comes out of the quality of your dialogues and conversations. Here’s how to instantly uplift your crucial conversations.”
―Mark Victor Hansen, cocreator of the #1 New York Times bestselling series Chicken Soup for the Soul®

The first edition of Crucial Conversations exploded onto the scene and revolutionized the way millions of people communicate when stakes are high. This new edition gives you the tools to:

  • Prepare for high-stakes situations
  • Transform anger and hurt feelings into powerful dialogue
  • Make it safe to talk about almost anything
  • Be persuasive, not abrasive

One of the most life-changing books I've ever read (and I'm a voracious reader). Excellent! One of the most life-changing books I've ever read (and I'm a voracious reader). What you'll learn in this book applies to your personal and professional life. As a woman, I wish I would have read this book years ago. I would have been better prepared to ask for promotions and been a better listener as a mother. I've purchased 7 books as gifts for college-aged kids. I wish I would have known about this book years ago. It's a book that you can re-read many times and still gain tips to help you through crucial conversations.Enormously Helpful in Relationships (Team and Families) Conversations move life forward. They can also stop things from moving forward. Relationships end on conversations and begin. Teams are formed and broken apart. Goals are made, expectations laid out, visions happen, all around conversations.Feelings get hurt in conversations, lies are told, deception, betrayal, all of these can happen in conversations.Enter the book Crucial Conversations Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High. I heard Joseph Grenny, one of the authors speak on this topic recently at the leadership summit and got a lot out of his session. All of us know the feeling of this kind of conversation and we know that this is where life changes. Here are 10 things I got from the book that I have found helpful in my life and leadership:1. When we face crucial conversations, we can do one of three things: We can avoid them, We can face them and handle them poorly, or We can face them and handle them well. At the heart of almost all chronic problems in our organizations, our teams, and our relationships lie crucial conversations—ones that we’re either not holding or not holding well. Christians and church staffs are notorious for avoiding crucial conversations. This is why churches often split, people leave hurt and visions never move forward. Instead of doing the hard work in a conversation, they are avoided. When in reality, because of what is at stake (salvation) and because of the calling of Jesus, we should do a better job of having crucial conversations.2. Individuals who are the most influential—who can get things done and at the same time build on relationships—are those who master their crucial conversations. We all know this to be true. If you aren't very good at dialogue, you sit back in wonder at those who are. They are able to gain more influence, get more done and people want to be on their team and a part of what they are doing. This is why raising the value of this skill and getting better at it matters so much. Things move forward or stop around conversations.3. The mistake most of us make in our crucial conversations is we believe that we have to choose between telling the truth and keeping a friend. Grenny said this at the summit and it grabbed my attention. This is one of, if not the main reason, most conversations stop and things do not move forward. Fear. Fear of a relationship ending, something stopping, getting fired or hurting someone. Yet, if we don't tell the truth, we often can't be a friend.4. People rarely become defensive simply because of what you’re saying. They only become defensive when they no longer feel safe. The problem is not the content of your message, but the condition of the conversation. If you are a boss and want honest feedback and conversation, people can't fear for their jobs or that you will yell at them. Recently, there has been a lot of writing online about pastors abusing people, creating a culture of fear, yelling at staff members, elders and volunteers and it blows my mind. If you are known for that as a pastor, you should be embarrassed.5. Be careful not to apologize for your views. This can be easy to do and it often happens as a way to soften your opinion or the blow in a conversation, but you shouldn't apologize for what you think. It is what you think. It might be hard or unpopular to say, but don't shy away from it. You may be wise to change how you phrase it, but always be willing to share what you think in a conversation.6. One of the ironies of dialogue is that, when talking with those holding opposing opinions, the more convinced and forceful you act, the more resistant others become. I done this very easily in the past. Yet, this practice keeps people from buying in and helping to make something happen. When we do this, we don't understand why people aren't on board. The reason is the harder we push our way, the harder they push their way.7. Speaking in absolute and overstated terms does not increase your influence, it decreases it. The converse is also true—the more tentatively you speak, the more open people become to your opinions. The more harshly we speak or the more we give the impression that there is only one way, the less likely it becomes that people will speak up. Now, on issues like vision, it must be clear and have agreement. But, in conversations, if we give the impression that something has been decided or that we aren't open to suggestions, we will kill discussion.8. When we feel the need to push our ideas on others, it’s generally because we believe we’re right and everyone else is wrong. This is another way the previous one. If you find yourself pushing your ideas, you aren't having a good dialogue and instead are simply giving out orders. That may be your leadership style, but it won't accomplish a healthy team environment and in the end, your church or business will never reach its full potential.9. The more you care about an issue, the less likely you are to be on your best behavior. As a leader or a person in a relationship, you must learn this well. This was an eye opening insight for me. I get very passionate about things, as most people do, and when I do, I can shut down dialogue and end up hurting people. We do this, often unintentionally because we care about something, because we believe we are right and have the only way forward.10. The fuzzier the expectations, the higher the likelihood of disappointment. When a crucial conversation ends, there must be clear expectations and guidance moving forward. It cannot be fuzzy or gray. Otherwise, a conversation has not ended, it is simply on pause. All in all, this was an incredibly helpful book. Some of it covered things I already knew but showed some helpful insights. I've already seen a change in some of my conversations with leaders at my church and in my family through this book. Definitely one I'd recommend.
